General Information
Faculty of Economics is the oldest institution in its field, representing the first independent school on economics in Turkey. It was founded on 14 December 1936 upon Atatürk's directives. Faculty of Economics established when not too many Western countries had separate economics faculties, has more than 45.000 graduates since its establishment. By education and research activities, it continues to contribute to Turkish social and economic life.
Faculty of Economics is proud to have employed European academics Umberto Ricci, Josef Dobretsberger, Wilhelm Röpke, Fritz Neumark, Alexander Rüstow, Alfred Issac, and Gerhard Kessler during the 1940s. Along with other Europeans employed at other faculties of the university, these professors contributed immensely to Istanbul University in its transformation from a traditional institution into a modern and contemporary establishment.
As of 2021-2022 academic year, there are nine programmes in the Faculty of Economics, and teaching is conducted entirely in English within the two of these programmes.

Istanbul University Faculty of Economics claims to be a faculty that strengthens its position in the international arena with more than 600 international students, over 50 bilateral agreements with reputable universities all over the world and exchange students and academic staff that it sends and accepts every year. In support of this claim, the Faculty of Economics International Office was established to serve the following objectives:
- Increasing student and academic staff mobility within the scope of Erasmus and Mevlana exchange programs and Memorandum of Understanding of Istanbul University,
- Increasing international academic interaction within the framework of the "Visiting Scholar Program",
- Increasing the number of double degree programs of the faculty and ensuring their effective use,
- Leading the projects that bring academic staff and international students together under the "Research Unit" within the office,
- Conducting the paperwork of our outgoing and incoming students within the scope of our exchange programs and other bilateral agreements,
- Providing orientation programs to international students of the faculty,
- Organizing academic and social events that bring international and Turkish students together.

Faculty of Economics is located in the Beyazit Campus and is surrounded by other faculties of Istanbul University. Situated in the heart of historical Istanbul, the campus is close to many landmarks of the city. For instance, the famous Grand Bazaar and Suleymaniye Mosque are within a five-minute walk.

NOTES:
1. Elective courses are opened according to the students' demands, and it is clarified after the course registration process.
2. In the undergraduate timetable of Economics (both in TR and EN programs), you see Group A and Group B for some courses. Students whose ID is an ODD NUMBER should attend the Group A classes and examinations. Students whose ID is an EVEN NUMBER should attend the GROUP B classes and examinations.
3. Courses that are mentioned in the list of Courses in English but not included in the timetables will not be opened this semester.

1. Your midterm and final examinations are evaluated out of 100 points at first.
2. If your final examination result is less than 60 out of 100, you directly fail. (FF)
3. If your final examination result is equal or more than 60 out of 100, 40% of midterm exam result + 60% of final exam result is your "base grade", and then the curve system is used to calculate the passing grade for students.
4. A student is considered to have passed a course provided he/she gets AA, BA, BB, CB or CC.
5. The grades DC or DD indicate a conditional pass.
6. If you get FF, DC or DD, you have a chance of taking the make-up examination. [If your make-up examination result is less than 60 out of 100 you fail. (FF) If your make-up examination result is equal or more than 50 out of 100, 40% of midterm exam result + 60% of make-up exam result is your "base grade", and then the curve system is used to calculate the passing grade for students.]
